Ransomware-immune backup storage — cannot be overwritten or deleted.
When a ransomware attacker breaches your network, their first target is the backup. If they encrypt or delete the backup, you’re left with paying ransom. Object First Ootbi (Out-of-the-Box Immutability) is a backup storage that by hardware design cannot be overwritten — not even by an attacker with stolen admin credentials. What makes Ootbi different
Classic backup storage can be completely deleted by an admin user with credentials. With Ootbi this is technically impossible: the devices use a special S3 Object Lock implementation that cannot be bypassed even by the system administrator. Even if the attacker gains domain admin rights: the backups remain untouched — until the configured retention period.
How Ootbi works with Veeam
Ootbi is built as Veeam-certified storage. Connection is via S3 protocol. Veeam writes its backups directly to Ootbi, with configurable immutability period (e.g. 30 days). Within this time the data cannot be deleted — not by Ootbi itself, not by hardware or configuration interventions.
Reality check: ransomware statistics
In the majority of successful ransomware attacks, attackers also encrypted the backup — because without that step the victim wouldn’t be coerced into paying ransom. With Ootbi exactly this step is impossible. You’re not extortable — you simply restore.
